CANUCK PLACE CHILDREN’S HOSPICE AWARDED EXEMPLARY STANDING FROM ACCREDITATION CANADA

Vancouver, B.C. (July 30, 2024): Canuck Place Children’s Hospice, the pediatric palliative care provider for B.C. and the Yukon, today announced it received Exemplary Standing from Accreditation Canada. This is the second time the organization has received this designation, attaining the highest level of performance, and achieving excellence in meeting the requirements of the international accreditation program.

For over 29 years, Canuck Place has provided care to children living with life-threatening illnesses and the families who love them. This past year alone, over 920 children with over 240 different life-threatening illnesses were supported by Canuck Place through inpatient and community-based care in-home, and in-hospital.

Their holistic approach to care and palliation in the midst of grief is outstanding. Person-centred care is exemplified in the hospices and staff members in every department demonstrate commitment and care.”

Accreditation Canada Surveyors

Accreditation Canada is an internationally recognized evaluation system to ensure Canuck Place continues to meet evolving healthcare standards and provide the highest level of quality care possible for children and families. Accreditation Canada is a third-party organization and through their process, Canuck Place is reviewed by Accreditation Surveyors who are healthcare professionals. They visit both hospices and speak with staff, patients and families, the board of directors, and partners to gain a better understanding of the care practices at Canuck Place.

The final report is a testament to the dedication of the whole team to quality and safety. It also highlights Canuck Place has gone beyond the requirements of the Qmentum accreditation program and demonstrates ongoing work and commitment to integrate accreditation into its operations to improve the quality and safety of its programs and services.
